Women use 43,5 hours to hair removal each year

According to a recent survey, a Finnish woman annually uses almost two days - around the clock - for removing body hair. The most time is used for removing hair on legs and intimate areas. These results were found in a comprehensive survey made on smart3s.fi.

The women respondents of smart3s.fi survey used on average 3,6 hours in each month or annually more than 43 hours to body hair removal. The consumed time varies considerably depending on person and age group. Those having it easy used a few minutes or less than an hour to hair removal each month; those struggling hard with unwanted hair used equivalent time each day. The middle respondent group managed with about 2,5 hours per month (median).

Most time used for legs and intimate areas

Hair removal from legs consumes most time, almost 1,5 hours per month (17 hours per year). Each month women use about one hour removing hair from intimate areas and 48 minutes from underarms (9,5 hours per year). Arms and other body areas consume considerably less time.

Women in their 20's and 40's consume most time to hair removal

Respondents aged 40-44 are clearly the age group that consumes most time for hair removal. They use over twice as much time as their slightly younger or older sisters. Another group using significantly more time to hair removal than average respondents is age group 15-25.

An interesting discovery was that after teenage the time used for hair removal gradually diminishes until upon turning 40 there is abrupt increase. Thereafter, the consumed time returns to lower level again.

About the survey

The survey was carried out as voluntary questionnaire to visitors on www.smart3s.fi web page 16 June - 15 August 2010. The questions posed were e.g. how many minutes each week the respondent uses to removing hair on various body areas (underarms, legs, arms, intimate areas, other areas) and how many times the respondent uproots eyebrows. Altogether 284 women aged 14-65 participated the survey.
